Holly Hunter is a well-known American actor, producer and director. Her work has been recognized for movies like Broadcast News The Firm The Piano The Incredibles and The Incredibles. The movie Piano earned her numerous awards which included an Oscar. Actresses have a long career of involvement in Broadway as well as Off-Broadway projects. As a child, Helen Keller was her most loved character from a fifth year play. The mumps that she contracted left her blind and deaf in one ear, but she refused to let that hinder her progress as an actor. As a teenager she studied drama, before moving into New York City. Hunter had her Broadway debut due to a chance meeting with Beth Henley, a playwright. Together, they wrote for Broadway Crimes of the Heart. When she moved into Los Angeles she tried to obtain film roles and was offered the role of a co-star on Swing Shift. Since then, she has appeared in a number of television series, films as well as movies throughout the span of her 30-year career. Holly Hunter was awarded a Hollywood Walk of Fame Star and also the Women in Film Lucy Award.
